Try to Remember the Excitement of Your First Time - As we put this issue to bed, the focus of the office furniture industry will shift to NeoCon, the industry's most important event. I think it is helpful to start by remembering what your first NeoCon felt like to attend.
  •   The Advantages of Being an Aligned Dealer in Your Manufacturer's Backyard - The Interphase showroom is a good example of all Haworth has to offer and how a working showroom can inspire customers. Interphase moved its entire business, including operations to the new location. It was a major undertaking for the dealer owners who bought Interphase in February 2018. Brann emphasized the the family ownership as important to the culture of both Haworth and Interphase. His family has owned and operated restaurants in the area for 90 years. He also said being a hometown dealer gives Interphase access to company executives that most dealers — even a Best in Class Haworth Dealer like Interphase would have.

  •   Rob Kirkbride | NeoCon is My Time to Reconnect to the Industry - With COVID still lurking, a war raging in Ukraine, the dust settling from the Herman Miller and Knoll merger, managers sorting work from home rules and inflation soaring, you might be feeling as unmoored as I am. Not to try to give you a heart attack, but NeoCon is less than two months away friends. Like it or not, NeoCon is our industry's family reunion. And for many dealers, it is one of the few times during the year when they get to connect with colleagues and friends from across the country and around the world.
  •   Jim Heilborn | The Future of Hiring and Retention: What do the Surveys Tell Us? - As if furniture dealers and manufacturers weren't already having their challenges retaining, replacing, attracting, and recruiting people in 2019, along came the pandemic. At the height of the pandemic a lot of employees put off changing jobs due to the instability of the labor market. Many people did get laid off but then decided they didn't want to return to their old job or way of life. So in addition to everything else that happened and with an already tight labor market for all businesses, people started quitting their jobs in record numbers and didn't return to their previous jobs or even industries. The Great Resignation.
  •   Washington Workplace: People, Products and Ideas that Make a Difference - The company follows three key philosophies: turning business relationships into real personal friendships; being prepared for business opportunities when they arise and most importantly; being committed to serve others (clients, employees, the community) without regard to any personal benefit or return. What makes Washington Workplace truly unique is its teams approach to sales. Each salesperson has his or her own team, complete with designers, project managers and sales coordinators, more similar to how real estate firms operate than office furniture companies. These teams operate effectively, profitably, and independently, under the Washington Workplace's outside-the-box system.
  •   Brian Zuercher | Sustainability is a Key to Attracting Future Talent - Creating a more sustainable product and infrastructure for the contract furniture industry is the main focus for the future of the industry; it also can be a springboard for attracting future top talent. The fossil energy we use to power machines that extract, transport, and process the raw materials we need for business is now in short supply. There is no rulebook that says office furniture dealers and reps must only sell office furniture.
  •   Jim Heilborn | Beyond Product: Alternate Ways to Grow Revenue - As I've written many times before, if your clients aren't buying furniture right now, they have a greater need to maintain what they already own. I've addressed this in the past but I am still amazed at the number of dealers who aren't taking greater advantage of the opportunity to increase their sales, gross profit, and capture greater market share by offering relevant services.
  •   OfficeWorks Makes the Most in its 'Small' Big City - OfficeWorks navigated through the COVID pandemic without furloughing a single worker. On our customer side, every one of our projects receives a satisfaction survey. We have consistently scored in the 99-plus percent range, in meeting or exceeding expectations and when we do have a response that indicates a need for improvement, that customer gets a call from our president who makes sure the issue is resolved to their satisfaction."

The space needs to be intuitive to solve user needs seamlessly.
  •   Brian Zuercher | Think Like a Startup When Considering New Revenue Sources - Writing down what the problem, not the solution, is a critical step before you head out to add a business line. It may seem elementary given that you might feel like adding a business line that exists elsewhere makes it a clear problem, but you will benefit from making sure who you think the target buyer is actually agrees with you that it's a problem.

  •   BRIAN ZUERCHER: DON'T DO TECH FOR TECH'S SAKE: USE A DECISION MATRIX - The meta culture of tech can often make us feel overwhelmed because we need to use tech in every aspect of our lives and business. •   'JUST BE HONEST WITH US' RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN DEALERS AND MANUFACTURERS STRAINED BY LOGISTICAL DELAYS - Sourcing is something dealers have little control over, but feel the heat from customers when products don't arrive on time. Yet with a little work — and a whole lot of communication — it doesn't have to be a disaster, said Mike Spencer, director of strategic sourcing at One Workplace. Lead times that might have increased by 10% or 20% are now stretching to 50% longer. Customers are getting impatient.

  •   ROB KIRKBRIDE: DEALERS CHANGING ALIGNMENT, MAKING ACQUISITIONS AND ADDING GEOGRAPHY AT HEAD SPINNING PACE - The pace at which it is taking place is head-spinning. It is nearly impossible to list all the changes taking place, but it is clear that dealers are either going all in with MillerKnoll or all out. One of the cases of going all out is outlined in today's Midpoint.
  •   BRIAN ZUERCHER: CLEAR UP CLIENT CONFUSION AND WIN BIG - You are probably fatigued with the amount of industry and pop culture articles talking about data-driven everything, lacking to put any real world examples of how it's used. I know we (our businesses) are guilty of beating that drum without connecting it to practical experience.
  •   STEFANIE INCE: LEADING WELL IN 2022 - A new year signifies a fresh start; a way to begin doing things differently. The stress and burnout experienced over the last two years is more pronounced than ever before, causing many to question their priorities — at home and at work.

It's easy to be fearful to let others know what is happening.
  •   GEORGE LUCAS PFEIFFER: THE TOP EIGHT TRENDS FOR WORKSPACES IN 2022 - Wellbeing at work is not a new trend. For over a decade the commercial interiors world has been promoting physical wellness through ergonomic solutions, floorplate designs that encourage movement, and health-conscious spaces. Yet to be 'well' means more than being physically well. It includes emotional, financial, and mental wellbeing.

Or if it does hit the street, make sure to have a complete package with your dealer's solutions. By working in a variety of different markets and sectors, Tangram simply has more opportunities. Jones gave an example of how this works for the company: Say Tangram is called in by a general contractor to talk about flooring for a large-scale project. The salesperson on the project obviously sees an additional need for walls and furniture.
